FAKE Coming to Big Screen?

A year or so ago I interviewed Ken Walton, the notorious art forger who was banned from eBay in the wake of the Diebenkorn scandal back in 2000. During our chat I asked Walton if there had been any interest from Hollywood in his book, FAKE: Forgery, Lies & eBay since the whole thing read like the type of behind-the-scenes drama that Tinseltown loves (think SHATTERED GLASS). At the time he said that while there had been some interest nothing concrete was in the works.

Apparently, that's not the case anymore. AuctionBytes mentions in its blog that Walton has closed a deal to bring the story to the big screen and IMDB is listing a film called FAKE as being "In Development" for a 2008 release.

If done correctly FAKE could be a great film filled with backroom negotiations, criminal activity that escalates to the point of no return and the genuine regret that Walton portrays over the course of the book.
